Adding Contrast In A Room

Today the choice of fixtures available to light our homes and offices is almost limitless. From recessed cans and track lighting to wall sconces and chandeliers, indoor fixtures perform a host of functions and come in an array of styles, each suited to serve specific purposes.

Since there are too many options to choose from, it becomes very essential to know about each type of lighting fixture and to understand how to use them together in a room to create a comfortable environment.

A good lighting scheme can change the entire look and feel of a room. It is an important factor in setting the mood of a place. So, it is very important to plan your lighting design carefully.

Lighting design goes far beyond choosing appealing fixtures and plugging them in and it certainly extends beyond direct lighting. At its most basic, lighting design involves employing different light levels that work together to highlight unique features of each room and address specific illumination requirements.

  • In order to develop a high quality gardening area, you need to make careful and detailed plans. The route you use to create these plans is variable, though.

The reason you need to plan is because you cannot just plant any vegetable. You need to analyze the area you are planting in to determine if your crops can thrive there. Thankfully, there are tons of plants out there, so no matter what kind of environment you have, you will have a lot of options.

The first type is greenhouse or sun room plants. These are very popular and include such species as Croton Manny and Croton Petra. These need direct filtered light in order for the color of the plants to fully develop.

Indoor growers will find ferns to be a preferable type of plant. Names of plants in this category include Southern Maidenhair and Spleenwort (I think they sound a bit weird).

Next are the regular vegetables and fruits. This includes celery, lettuce, peas, and squash, as well as pumpkins and a variety of peppers.

  • House Plant Migration For September

The month of September we begin to bring plants back indoors. There may be a long and sultry Indian summer later, but nature generally reminds us to get busy by providing a cold snap in the early days of the month after which she may relent and give us a reprieve of warm weather for a few more weeks. There is really no excuse for unreadiness when winter arrives.

House plants must be taken indoors before greenhouse plants, contrary to a popular notion. The danger is that long before frost damage even threatens, the cool moist weather will cause the plants to grow rapidly and produce soft succulent growth. Brought indoors, with dry heat instead of cold night dews, they soon collapse. They should be brought indoors before windows are closed, if not promptly on Labor Day, not too long thereafter. Thus the hazardous transition is minimized. This is an important secret of old-fashioned green thumb technique.

The usual grooming can be given plants at this time. Surface soil is removed from about the top of the plant without disturbing the roots and replaced with good potting soil. In general repotting or any root disturbance at this time should be avoided since this is an added shock. Spraying and removal of poor or unshapely growth complete the preparation.

  • Spas have been around for a very long time. One reason spas have become so popular, or why so many people love having a day at the spa, is because they have a little something called a steam room or steam shower. This is the room you will sit in, with many other people, doing most of your relaxing.

The steam room is the most relaxing place at the spa - and is perfect right after your massages. For a long while, the spa was the only place one was able to experience a steam room like this. Not anymore, because now there is something called a steam shower that takes the place of your old out dated shower.

That is right, now you can have a steam room, or steam shower, right in your own home, or bathroom. Once your steam shower is installed, all you need to get is your very own masseuse and you will have a fully fledged spa! Maybe this is a good time for your wife to take those massages lessons!

A Steam Shower - What is it?

  • Wire Fence And Cucumber

Last year, I succumbed to the lure of a whim to train cucumber vines up in the air, and found the method so fine that Ill never go back to growing them on the ground again.

My “espalier” manner of growing cucumbers was good looking and good fun. It kept fruit out of the mud and made it easy to find and pick. I recommend it unqualifiedly, especially to those who have but limited garden space, as I do in my garden.

To make a fence for the vines to climb on I got three 8-foot lengths of pipe and drove them 2 feet into the ground at about equal intervals. I then strung two 3 foot widths of chicken wire between the posts and tied them at four or five points up the length of the posts with wire.

The soil was then dug deep on one side of the wire fence at five points, say 2 feet in from each end post and at three other equidistant points between. This was done just far enough out from the wire fence so as not to touch it anywhere with a shovel.

  • Fertilize Bonsai Tree - Easy Steps

Bonsai trees, like all other living things, require food for existence. Unlike the roots of normal trees that develop for further expanses seeking nourishment, the roots of bonsai trees are restricted to develop inside the tray & hence theyll be capable of obtaining just whatever nutrition is obtainable in the soil within the container. Thus, the soil inside the pot requires to be often replenished with the apt quantity of nutrients.

The practice of furnishing nutrients to the soil where plants develop is called Fertilizing and its a major section of bonsai tree care. The nutrients existing in the manure will support the bonsai tree to produce its own food by a process termed Photosynthesis. The quantity & kind of fertilizer to be given for bonsai tree care is hugely based on factors namely: - Kind of bonsai tree - How old is the bonsai tree - Moment of the year in which the bonsai is fertilized
