You may find a petrol long reach hedge trimmer described as a telescopic hedge trimmer or a pole hedge trimmer. There are many reasons for choosing a long reach hedge trimmer, if you have tall hedges in your garden and are concerned about climbing ladders in order to cut the top sections, they are ideal.

When choosing a petrol long reach hedge trimmer you need to check out for yourself, how well balanced the particular model you have in mind actually is. It is often the case that a hedge trimmer is chosen on price, but whilst these cheaper models may be lighter weight, they are often so poorly balanced that they are extremely difficult to use. If your new hedge trimmer is not well balanced, the result will be that you will be aching before long as there is a lot of strain on the upper body trying to manoeuvre a long reach trimmer.

A petrol hedge trimmer for me at least, wins hands down over either a cordless or a mains electric model. Even though a cordless model is safer than the mains electric type as there is no power cord that could get sliced or caught up in your hedge, it just does not have enough power for me. I find that it is absolutely maddening to have to quit the job and go and find the lopping shears because the cordless is just not mane enough for the job. No, it really has to be a petrol model every time.

The engine fumes will be carried away from your face when you are using your hedge trimmer. So, you need not worry about the possibility of breathing in carbon monoxide or any other exhaust gasses. If you are still concerned, take a look at the design, pick up the machine and hold it as you would when cutting the hedge and you will be able to see that there is nothing to be concerned about there.

Choosing a model with articulating blades that can be angled to suit the comfort of the operator and the shape of the hedge means that any hedge can be cut efficiently and with minimal effort. Even the tops of tall hedges can easily be cut from the ground by rotating the cutting bar to an angle of 90 degrees from the handle, enabling a nice straight top-line to be achieved.

If I was to have to find one disadvantage with a petrol hedge trimmer, it would have to be that they are louder in operation than an electric one. For me, a pair of ear defenders solves this problem but if you live in close proximity to your neighbours, a little courtesy about what time and when, you choose to cut your hedge would be appreciated! As with all hedge trimmers, eye shields are indispensable and even more vital when working above your head, as you will be with a long reach trimmer.

A long reach petrol hedge trimmer will save you time and effort and potentially, keep you a lot safer as not only will you not have to worry about trailing electric cords, you will not have to worry about falling off a ladder either! The vast majority of people who have used a long reach model will never go back to climbing ladders to cut their tall hedges once they have experienced how easy it is to do from the safety of the ground!
