Many people are the handyman type and installing shower sliding glass doors may seem to be an easy thing to do. Before you get started you must make sure that you know everything there is to know to get the project off the ground so that the installation runs smoothly. The more research you do the more chance there is that the project will be a success. Whether you are installing a standard sliding glass door or a more standard sliding door, the principle is still the same. There are numerous reasons why shower doors might need to be tailor made and these might need a different method of installation.

Everything needs to be measured up properly before you can make the decision as to which shower doors to buy. It also doesn’t help measuring the base of the shower. It is very rare to find a wall that has been built straight as a result it is recommended that you measure every 30cm or so up the wall. You might have to trim the sides or the bottom of the door to make it fit correctly. It goes without saying that a shower door that doesn’t fit is going to result in leaks.

The first step to follow when installing the sliding door is to install the track. The only time you won’t need to do this is if the door is a trackless type, which is mostly used for the disabled so that the wheelchairs can run over them without any difficult. In the case of handicap access, you may still need to install a track but it would be one of those that lies flat when the wheelchair moves over it thus making sure that the water stays in the shower and does not run onto the floor.

The next step is to properly install the top track and it must be parallel to the base track otherwise you are going to have some problems. In the case of a frameless sliding door, make sure you read the instructions from the manufacturer since the top track is a guide rather than a frame.

Finally you need to remove any chances of leaks by installing the sides and making sure that the door fits tightly into them. You must make sure that the door does not stick at any point. If you have measured everything up correctly and marked the tracks in case they slide then everything should have gone smoothly but if the tracks have moved by even a small bit and you have failed to notice then you may need to start over. This is applicable for both a standard as well as a frameless shower door installation.
