Office cleaning is no big deal and yet, if it is not done regularly and efficiently, the production of your staff is definitely affected. In a nutshell, a clean office is a happy office and so this article has been compiled as a guide to help to get you increase your profits by performing such a simple task. Crystal Clean Solutions has been around for the last 13 years. We have seen firsthand the effect that a clean office generates and we have countless written testimonies from our customers to prove it.

Phase One : Be Prepared

A mop, vacuum cleaner and brush are not enough. You need to make sure that you have all the equipment that you are going to need for the job. Old cloths, dusters, floor cleaner (or a dry foam carpet solution if you don’t have the easy to clean tiled floors), possibly a toilet brush and refuse bags. While we are on the topic of the toilet, don’t forget the air freshener and disinfectant wipes. Make sure you have some rubber gloves as well since the cleaning fluids can turn nasty if you work with them too long.

Step 2 : Know what needs to be done

Start by letting some sunshine and fresh air into the room. Get the windows open! Once you do this you will notice that the job doesn’t seem to be as bad. Look at the job you are facing and see if there is anything that requires special attention (grease marks, stains on the floors or furniture). Set yourself a goal in terms of how long you will take to finish the job and then start at one end of the room. Make sure that your cleaning equipment is close by but not in the way.

Step Two: Get rid of the garbage.

Emptying the bins and getting rid of papers, food packaging and general office rubbish is the first place that you should start. Place recyclable and general rubbish into separate bags so that you don’t have to do this later. After this simple step you will already see the improvement and the job will at least start looking easier.

Step four: Move the stationery and equipment

Before you can start cleaning you need to make sure that you make space. Unplug lights, computers, printers etc and move them out of the room. Smaller office furniture such as office rubbish bins, foot stools and chairs should be moved out of the way and desktop clutter (pens, calculators, papers, books etc) should be tidied and packed away.

Step five: Dust off the entire office.

Since your area should be pretty empty at this stage with the exception of some of the larger furniture you can now start to dust all surfaces in the office. Make sure that you start by dusting the high areas first (book shelves, light fittings etc) otherwise the dust from these will settle on the surfaces you have already cleaned.

Phase Six: Vacuum EVERYTHING!

Since your floor is relatively clear, try to move some of the larger furniture around so that you can get into those dark corners. Since all the dust from the previous step should now be on the floor, get out the vacuum cleaner and suck up everything! Every chair, blind, curtain, desk and piece of carpet should be vacuumed properly. Vacuum any empty cupboards, drawers etc as well and once this is all done, move all the furniture back into it original positions before you proceed to the next step.

Step seven: Lay on the magical spray

Everything should now be dust free so take your furniture spray or disinfectant spray and spray all the window sills, furniture and office working areas. Some spray products require you to wait a short while before wiping off the surfaces. Now you can clean all the individual bits of office equipment (computers, lights etc) properly before carrying it back into the office. A little bit of spray and a cloth should be all you need. Be careful with computer monitors that you don’t use a furniture polish on them (you get special monitor cleaner). Finally scent the air with your air freshener and give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done.
