We try to wrap our trees to prevent southwest damage and keep rabbits and voles from damaging the bark. However it requires diligence to keep deer from browsing on our branches. We have used several methods to keep deer away and for the most part they work. However some deer are very hard to deter and you end up shooting them. In most cases the DNR will issue permits to remove problem animals. It is also a very good idea to invite hunters to your property to keep population numbers under control.
