Wow... great post on Xeriscaping... I've honestly never heard of it before. I once had a neighbor how zero lanscaped his yard... i.e. all grass was gone and he only had rocks and other items that required zero maintenance. I liked the idea of Xeriscaping, but I'd love to see a few examples first. Does anyone have any pictures of Xeriscaping that's been done? Thanks much - Derek

That was informative! I've always implemented the concept with succulents & now I have a name for it...xeriscaping! This type of gardening is perfect for people like me, who LOVE plants, but lack the time it takes to keep the 'high-maintenance' variety happy. Thanks again. Well done.

I live in Atlanta where we've been in serious drought conditions over the last few years. Over the summer most places had a total outside water ban. Needless to say, my garden was pretty much dead by June. The Xeriscaping concept may be something to look into. Thanks.

I live in the desert southwest of the United States and I am definitely interested in this. To be honest, I had never even heard of it before. Here it is either you pay a lot of water or you have rocks. This sounds like a beautiful alternative. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

This is exectly what we do here in Brazil. Not because of the lack of water though but just because it's too damn hot to do any gardening!!!

Hi, I've never heard of Xeriscaping and the concept sounds okay but I live in Michigan and the conditions change rapidly. So what I've done is put in a rock garden dry ponds and there is still maintenance!!!!!
However, I will look further into this xeriscaping during the winter months and see if it will work on our property.

The idea of Xeriscaping is catching on big time in Australia also, where like Colorado, our water supplies can be precarious.

It's marvellous what a little prior planning will do.

Choosing appropriate and hardy plants and clever companion planting and positioning, can work wonders.

Thanks for the great eco tips from both myself and the planet.

This is a great idea! So many people now a days take for granted our water supplies. Many farmers and people from yesteryear used barrels for this purpose!

That sounds like the perfect recipe for the South of France where I am based.

Last year it cost nearly €1000 just to water the garden nearest to our house.
